The Anniversary Party at the River Cafe, Brooklyn

March 21st, 2010, marked the 40th wedding anniversary of two very special people I know – the mother and father of my beloved husband, Owen.  To celebrate, we got together with Owen’s siblings to throw a surprise brunch for the happy couple.  The eldest girl, Kathy, did most of the organizing and decided upon The River Cafe as the place.  We agreed that returning to Brooklyn, where my in-laws had grown up, met, wed and lived for the first 12 years of their marriage was the perfect place!  And I was excited about returning to the view I had so recently enjoyed photographing for Sara and Peter’s wedding.  Of course, I brought my camera…

Kathy reserved the party room at the Cafe, which is absolutely gorgeous, with stone patio flooring and Parisien cafe chairs.  Here, a photo of the kids’ table placed near the greenhouse garden, which had a little waterfall pond, as well as the amazing food!

Ronnie and Ken seemed to have a great time at the party.  We surprised them by inviting their siblings, one of whom flew all the way  from Texas. The natural light streaming in through the many windows and the lovely tied, white curtains was beautiful.

We also made good use of the private deck that was attached to the party room to make some family portraits (here, the groom with his best man/brother, 40 years later).  It had that famous view of the Brooklyn Bridge and the Manhattan skyline, minus the need to crop your shot around the many other people wandering around and photographing on the pier.

When the youngest of their 11 children graduated from college last summer (the 10th of their children to do so!) and was inducted into the Coast Guard, I photographed the day for my in-laws and made a little Brag Book (see above) and framed family photo for them.  My mother-in-law loved it so much that I can’t wait to make another album for her of this big day.

40 years!  May we all be so blessed.  Happy anniversary, mom and dad!
