Gabby and Jesse live out of state. So when they were coming to New York for a blitzkrieg of meetings with vendors, we arranged to get together at their wedding venue and do their engagement shoot. I’d never been to The Hill in Hudson, so it was especially exciting for me to walk around and get to know the site (and Gabby and Jesse). The colors there, especially on such a sunny day, were just so saturated and delicious! After talking about the plans for the big day and making some shots, we headed over to Hudson for an urban backdrop. Going to two nearby locations in one shoot was an easy way to get a variety of looks for their photos.
As soon as she got out of the car, Gabby confessed that they were both shy in front of the camera. All the more reason to do an engagement shoot! The e-shoot is really the hot seat of wedding photography: just you and the camera for an hour or two without the distractions of an event or friends and family to focus on. I like to think of it as learning to play an instrument by playing in a jazz band. If you can do that, you can do anything! And with faces like these, and a sweetness in their relationship that easily made everything feel relaxed, there wasn’t any way, really, for Gabby and Jesse to go wrong. So with experience like this, hopefully they’ll be even more relaxed on the wedding day.
See you soon!
