As Hurricane Sandy pummeled the East Coast with massive rains, flooding, fires and storm surges, the black and white film I shot at Jia and Johnson’s wedding waited it out in my pro lab at the heart of the storm in NYC. The lab filled up with four feet of water! But thanks to those ever-dependable techs, the film was nestled well above the water line. The processed negatives and hi-res scans returned to me safe and sound just the other day, and I’m excited to share my favorites here.
It is not surprising that it would be the film from this wedding that was saved. Jia and Johnson are so obviously a match made in heaven. You could tell from the relaxed way they enjoyed their time together on their wedding day at Mohonk Mountain House, including lots of room for portraits of the two of them alone. You could tell, too, by the way everyone there was just bubbling with happiness for them. From the beautiful tea ceremony, beginning the day with a moment to honor their sweet parents, to their friends’ high-spirited rendition of Gangnam Style as the last dance, Jia and Johnson’s day was full of grace.
